How a Thread Fountain Works

Water runs down a thin, clear nylon thread – about 4 mm wide – that you can barely see. At first look the thread itself is almost invisible. What you see instead is a narrow stream of water, only about 4–5 mm wide, that looks like it's floating in the air with nothing holding it up.

This little trick is what makes it so fun: the water falls much more slowly than it would if it were really free-falling. Almost every person who sees it reaches out to touch it – and then laughs when they feel the hidden thread!

A Stunning Visual Effect

The beauty of a thread fountain is that the threads are almost invisible. All you see is water falling freely through the air – no frame, no support, just flowing water. Thread fountains are still quite rare, so most people have never seen one before. That makes the effect even more special and hard to forget.

There is about 3.5 cm of open space between each thread, so the whole curtain looks light and open rather than solid or heavy. The large open water surface also adds moisture to the air – great for dry rooms.

Any Shape You Can Imagine

Thread fountains are not limited to a straight line in front of a wall or as a room divider. As long as there is at least 3.5 cm of space between each thread, the nozzles can be arranged in almost any pattern you like. This opens up a lot of creative possibilities:

• 🌊 Wave shape – a flowing, curved line that adds movement and energy

Build Very Tall – Without Heavy Materials

One of the best things about thread fountains is how light and easy to build they are. The threads weigh almost nothing, so you can go very high without needing heavy supports or a lot of building working.

The system also runs quietly – no splashing, and very little to clean or fix.

A Quick Tip on Nozzle Materials

If you use brass nozzles, some water treatments or distilled water can make them turn dark or leave stains. We recommend stainless steel nozzles instead – they look nicer, last much longer, and you won't have this problem.
